Andrea comes down the steep side of the caern valley. A few rolling
stones announce her presence. Once on the ground, she looks around and
moves toward the center.
Nightflash chuffs a greeting to Andrea.
Andrea glances around. She then looks down at her student with a crooked
smile. "Can you come?" she asks.
Adam finishes his nightly jog by heading to the caern. He jogs along the
rim, veering quickly into the center.
By the waterfall, Elan comes down the trail and ambles gently towards
the center of the caern, all decked out with odd drawings done in
brown marker on his dark skin.
Nightflash will be there if he is needed.
Andrea's smile relaxes as more people come up. "I'd like you there," she
tells the ahroun. "But I understand if you have to stay to guard." She
motions with one hand. "Could you howl for me though, and gather those
that don't know we're getting ready?"
Nico follows after Agatha, her hands stuffed into her pockets. Her face
holds little expression, but her quick pace and springing step show
the young Fury is in high spirits.
Agatha gives Andrea an almost-salute as she and the black cub arrive in
the center. "I am sorry we are not earlier, Andrea-rhya. We were, ah,
delayed." The Fury Galliard is, oddly enough, apparently not carrying
her sketchpad and pencils.
Elan walks up, ritual bag over his shoulder, a few extra tokens afixed
to his belt, his shirt open and chest bared to the elements. The
designs continue on down over the scars over his heart and curls in
simple patterns over his arms and sides.
Adam looks around at the group as they arrive. The Gaian's a little
tense, but it's more of high spirits than real tension.
Nico stands beside Agatha, remaining silent. She cocks her head at Elan,
watching him closely.
By the waterfall, Arlen clambers down the path, grinning happily. She's
got a 'Women Unite, Take Back The Night' shirt on, as she practically
bounces over to Quiet.
Andrea turns from Nightflash to offer a nod and smile to Agatha. "That's
all right," she offers easily. "Soren and I were late finishing
patrol, so I just got here a few minutes ago."
By the steam vents, Shakes comes into the caern from the southwest.
Agatha grins at Arlen, although a slightly puzzled look flicks over her
face as she reads the t-shirt.
Nightflash howls long and loud.
From Center of the Caern, Nightflash can be heard to howl, ~Those who
would help bind a spirit to a place of healing, gather in the Caern
now. (no Call of the Wyld)~
Nico flashes a slight grin over to Arlen as she arrives. "Good evening,
rhya," she greets the fostern quietly.
Arlen bounces on the balls of her feet. "Evening."
Andrea turns to the bouncing daughter of Weasel with a smile before
thanking Nightflash softly. She then waits for a few minutes for any
else to arrive, while she exchanges greetings with those here. Davy
arrives not too far behind his packmate, hands shoved in his pockets
and whistling 'Foxy Lady.'
Elan flashes a smile at Arlen, then a bigger one at his pack alpha,
before turning his attention to Andrea.
Adam watches the group quietly, letting the Adren have his attention.
Agatha leads Nico over to Arlen's side, forming a knot of Furies. She
watches the rest of the group, although she either hasn't seen Adam or
is ignoring him.
Shakes moves to sit near Elan, his eye passing over the small crowd
assembled here. His gaze rests a moment longer on Davy than the rest,
then turns back to the Rite leader.
Nico stands in between Agatha and Arlen, watching the other Garou with a
cool, expressionless, but observant, stare. She takes her hands out of
her pockets, and crosses her arms.
Arlen eventually stops bouncing, and, giving the Furies another grin,
just waits. Almost patiently, even.
Elan settles beside Shakes.
Adam's eyes look upward, looking at each person as they arrive. As he
sees the Uktena Cub, he walks over to Liam.
Andrea glances around. Her lips move slightly, as if she's counting.
"Thank you for coming," she finally says as the few Garou join the
main group. "I thought it would be better to meet here and explain
what is going to happen than to do it at the site. Are there any
questions before I begin to explain?"
By the steam vents, Liam shifts back up to homid, waves, and heads right
over towards the gathering of people in the center.
Davy looks up as Andrea mentions explaining things. "That's a first," he
mutters softly. He then catches the Bone Gnawer ragabash's glance and
winks at him.
Agatha simply listens as Andrea begins her explanation.
Liam tries to breath as quietly as he can, as not to interrupt, and
listen at the same time.
Nico also remains quiet, her eyes fixing on Andrea as she listens.
Arlen gives Davy a grin over her shoulder, then settles down to the
important task of listening.
Adam walks over to Liam, and nudges him in the arm, smiling.
Elan checks a few of the tokens tied to his jacket and boots, then puts
all his attention on Andrea.
Shakes sits quietly, observing. If he winks back at Davy, it's a very
surruptitious wink with his bad eye, the one he constantly keeps
closed.
"We have gathered here tonight because of this." Andrea does a twist of
her hand near her belt, and suddenly there is a rusted crooked blade
in her hand. She holds it up so all can see. "This was a fetish made
by both the Children of Gaia and the Black Furies years ago, and held
and perverted for a long time by an evil mage. We reclaimed it and
cleansed it three years ago. We lost Garou lives doing so. Then my
tribe travelled to our Homeland where the spirits there taught me what
to do with this knife." She smiles slightly. "It is quite a story. I
wish we had time for more than a summary. But tonight, we will finally
set the knife in its place. It is more than just a knife to do damage
against Garou and spirit. When a ritual is done over this knife that
sets it into the cornerstone of a building, that building will draw
helpful spirits to it. Women and children inside that building will
heal faster and sleep easier than they did before." She falls silent
briefly, then adds. "It is a powerful fetish, and tonight we will
finally put it to its true use."
Nightflash wrinkles his muzzle with distaste.
Adam looks voer to Agatha, and raises an eyebrow, the question evident
on his face.
Agatha looks intently at the knife, then looks back to Andrea. she
completely ignores Adam's look.
Arlen ignores the by-play and just watches both the knife and Quiet.
Knife(#3714)
This knife has a strange, rusted look, but on further examination, the
rust seems deep within the blade, integral to it. There is a
temptation to continue gazing at this effect, but looking too long
tends to produce a headache. Holding it, you feel soothed, as if it
were some kind of spiritual analgesic. For all its oddity, the knife
looks durable, and well-suited for combat. The handle is carved with
two runes: Black Fury and Children of Gaia.
Shakes' gaze goes to the knife, ever so briefly, then back to Andrea.
Nico leans foward with interest as Andrea speaks, nodding slowly. She
peers at the knife for a long time.
Liam grins at Adam for half a moment, then listens intently to Andrea's
words as she speaks.
Andrea swallows at the pause. Her eyes flick to Nightflash briefly, but
then she goes on. "We will make three circles. In the center will be
Arlen and myself. Then, in the second circle, can be these." She
counts with the fingers of her right hand. "Children of Gaia. Black
Furies. Theurges." She glances around, and her gaze settles briefly on
Liam. "But not cubs. Cubs and all others, especially the ragabash,
will be on the outer circle. There will be kin there to help, but the
outer circle will serve two purposes. First, and most important, to
keep any outsider from seeing what we're doing." She smiles slightly.
"A kinfolk has helped us arrange this night, but there are still
people on the streets, even in the outskirts of a suburban town.
Second, they offer their goodwill." She raises her left hand, the one
with the knife, so that it catches the moonlight. "That means more
than lip service, here. Each participant must make some promise that
will further what we do tonight."
Agatha glances briefly at Nico, then looks back at Andrea.
Elan nods quietly, looking to be deep in thought.
Adam looks down at his shoes, thinking.
By the steam vents, Mountain's-Peak comes into the caern from the
southwest.
By the steam vents, Mountain's-Peak heads into the center.
Liam sighs slightly at the 'cub' bit, but just sort of nods and starts
thinking to himself.
By the waterfall, Patrick appears in a glimmer of orange light.
You say "The strength of the promise depends on the circle where you
stand. Arlen and I will have to make the most extreme committment."
The theurge Gaian glances at Arlen briefly before continuing. "Those
in the center might pledge a notable service, a rite to honor Unicorn
or Pegasus, or a promise of aid. Those on the outside should pledge
something, but it can be as little or as much as they wish."
Nico nods slowly at Andrea's words, her eyes flashing with thought.
Andrea smiles slightly and glances around the gathering. "Now that I
have explained, if you have any questions, offer them. Otherwise, we
should be on our way."
Nightflash says, ~What is the name of the kin who will aid us?~
Arlen's entire body is a question, really, but she declines to let it
onto her lips.
Attracted by the activity in the center of the Caern, Mountain's-Peak
steps out of the steam vents to join those already gathered.
Andrea glances to Nightflash. "There will be several there, as well as
the one that will cover for us on the construction site the next
morning. I know of Dana and Maria, of our tribe's kinfolk." She looks
toward Arlen again. "And Phil and Teddy of the Black Fury kin. I know
they spoke of asking some of the Silver Fang kinfolk, but I am not
certain what the final count will be." Her face turns back to
Nightflash. "Dana will pour the stone."
By the waterfall, Patrick waves his hand high in the air, obviously
trying to attract Andrea's attention.
Nightflash doesn't seem to recognize any of those by name.
Elan recognizes both, and suddenly smiles.
Arlen quirks a smile, evidently approving of giving the Kin actual
useful tasks.
Andrea's attention is finally distracted from Nightflash. After
murmuring, "Well, you will meet them," she turns toward the waterfall
and lowers the knife in her left hand.
Pack> Andrea says wryly, "Coming to help us finish what you helped me
begin, packmate?"
Pack> Patrick says "I had considered it. Is David gonna be there? He
began it more than I did."
Mountain's-Peak comes closer to the group, stepping between Agatha and
Nico. She grins at the other Fury's, wagging her tail in greeting. She
seems to know what is going on, having listened in for a time.
Nico looks down and gives a small, lopsided smile to the Fury lupe. She
puts a hand on Mountain's-Peak's shoulder.
By the waterfall, Patrick starts waving his hand high in the air this
time, still trying to get Andrea's attention. "I gotta question!"
Agatha glances down at the lupusborn Black Fury. There is a tension, an
excitement in her every move that is not usually present, and her
sketchpad and pencils are noticeably missing from her jacket pockets.
Andrea looks faintly foreboding, but she asks anyway, "What is it?"
Pack> Andrea answers through the link, "He'll be nearby, but not inside.
I can't justify him as kin, and nor is he a woman."
By the waterfall, Patrick asks, "Will refreshments be served afterwards?
They usually do at those cornerstone and ribbon-cutting ceremonies."
Elan quirks a smiles, being used to No-moon antics after all this time
serving under one.
Andrea's lips quirk and she turns to the group at large. "Any that wish
to after the rite can go to my pack's apartment in the city." Her
smile grows. "Patrick just volunteered it."
Liam grins for but a moment, before he pushes it back under his
'thinking' expression, rubbing at the back of his neck. At Andrea's
words, he blinks, looking up with mingled curiousity and hope on his
face to her.
Adam stifles a chuckle, muttering "BUS-ted," in Patrick's direction.
Nico just snorts and shakes her head slowly. She uncrosses her arms and
puts them back into her pockets.
Agatha grins, almost ferally.
By the waterfall, Patrick chuckles. "Sure. At the very least, I can have
some flavored oatmeal ready," he says, eyes twinkling.
Pack> Patrick half-sings, "Cooking..."
Andrea only shuts her eyes. She murmurs softly, "Proof that one can
never best a no-moon." Davy is near enough to hear her and laughs,
giving Patrick a thumbs-up. Andrea than calls out, "We will go as a
group to the site, which is on the edge of Rise of Mercury territory
in Kent Crossing. Run together, and shift before leaving the forest."
************************
Elan smiles. The marks on his chest resemble, after a little head
turning and thinking about it, a woman pouring water upon the land,
with other lifting up hands to get food from her. A
Gaia-representation, it has to be.
Sally MacKay reaches out a hand to move his jacket out of the way as she
studies Elan's painted on art. "Huh," she says, quieter than her
greeting to him. After another quick look at all the unknown Garou,
she turns her eyes back to the Gnawer, eyebrows raised slightly in
question; her 'where's the party, dude?' attitude seems to be fading
away.
Liam stays close by to Patrick, looking around the place uncertainly.
Phil stays near Teddy and his car as he waits for a familiar face to
arrive. Sally's enthusiasm for Elan notwithstanding, he does not warm
up until he spots Arlen and Agatha arriving. He leads Teddy over
towards the Furies, making his respectful greetings to all of them.
Elan grins at Sally, and points to the others. "They'll show you want to
do."
Sally MacKay nod, slipping both of her hands into the pockets of her
jacket. Though she doesn't move away from Elan, she does turn her
attention to the rest of the group.
Agatha grins at her cousin, her excitement becoming more visible. She
introduces Phil to Nico in quiet tones.
Arlen observes the gathering Kin and Garou with an eager anticipation,
staying a bit closer to Quiet than she might usually.
Teddy shoves his hands into his pockets, just being quiet.
Maria stays somewhat apart from the rest of the Kin, although Sally gets
a fleeting smile.
Adam stays quiet, waiting for the moment, though watches the Kinfolk a
little.
Nico nods to Phil. She stays behind Agatha, hovering there for the
moment until the Rite begins. Her gaze goes to those she knows,
paticularly Teddy.
Dana somehow manages to hang back and go mostly unnoticed amidst the
hubbub, but she livens a bit as Andrea and Arlen show up. Rather than
approach, she gives both women a shy smile, then watches Andrea for
cues.
Sally MacKay's head lifts a little, her smile returning as she spots
Arlen. No waves this time, the kinswoman just gives her a nod and a
flash of a grin.
Patrick stays over to one side, uninvolved in the social activities and
introductions beginning the gathering. Rather, he's leaning calmly
against s nearby streetlamp, hands in his pockets.
Renee stands with the other Furies, gaze sweeping over those gathered.
Agatha's excitment seems to be rubbing of on her a bit.
Elan unshoulders his ritual bag and pulls out a bright token from it,
like a shiny penny.
Luc stays well away from everyone, not knowing any of the kinfolk and
not feeling particularly comfortable in this form.
Phil approaches Andrea with a quiet, respectful bow. "Lady, would you
have me move the car before you begin?"
Liam watches everyone, and then taps on Patrick's shoulder lightly
before whispering to him in a quiet voice.
Arlen gives Sally a slightly cocky grin, and, once she spots Dana, gives
her a far more friendly one, although she stays where she is for the
moment, trying to look casual on this suburban street.
Patrick snorts at Liam's whisper and replies in hushed tones.
Andrea looks around the shadowed area before walking toward Phil as the
center kinfolk. She waves both Patrick and Arlen over with her. Though
Dana gets a quick smile, she doesn't make sure the last kin is with
those for the outside. The theurge first introduces herself to the
kin, then explains a little. "I'm Andrea Wyatt. Thank you for coming.
We're going to try to do this as quickly and efficiently as we can, so
we won't draw attention. What I need you to do is watch for anyone
coming, and head them off before they can see what we're doing. The
company constructing the building does know you're on site, so you can
argue with anyone short of a policemen...and Gaia hold our luck where
we won't get one of those." She smiles at that, then adds, "I am not
sure how much all of you know of us, but there will be ones on the
outside that can help you confuse anyone you spot. Get one of them if
you need help." She then turns to Patrick and points toward a light
that shines near the site. "Kill that light," she says. To Arlen,
then, she says, "And if you could bring your gift up in the street? We
need to see, but there could be a fog bank in that dip there." Almost
as an afterthough, she turns back to the kinfolk. "You will hear the
Garou making pledges. You can, if you wish, but you are not required
to. Get my attention if you wish to do so, before I go to the inner
circle."
Phil nods his understanding to Andrea. "I would like to make a pledge,
if I may, Ms. Wyatt."
Andrea laughs softly. "I think that may be the first time anyone has
called me that since college. And certainly. Thank you again."
Arlen mutters something about lacking pinpoint control, but faint wisps
of fog start to appear where Andrea indicated; it's almost
unnoticeable, but the dip, and the area around it fill, slowly.
Sally MacKay nods some, but remains in place until Teddy or Phil move
first. She ums softly at the pledge part, shrugging and then glancing
towards Phil as he offers. She doesn't speak up, however.
Patrick gives his packmate a small, lopsided grin, then turns towards
the streetlight under which he had just been standing. He points his
forefinger at the light, makes a motion as if his finger were the
barrel of a gun, and softly says, "Bang." The area is plunged into
darkness for a moment as the light is swallowed in pitch blackness.
Eventually, though, eyes begin to adjust to the softer moonlight.
Elan moves to the middle area of the rite circle, turning the small
token over and over in his fingers.
Phil smiles a charming smile. "I shall move the car into the fog, and
then we will begin our wanderings, if that suits." Although he blinks
at the sudden darkness, he seems otherwise unfazed.
Teddy just sort of keeps out of the way.
"Cool," Sally murmurs at Patrick's 'trick'. After a quick glance between
Phil and Teddy, she decides to stick with the latter for now.
Andrea hesitates, but shrugs after a glance at Arlen. "If you wish to
pledge, wait a moment. Then go. I will take you first." She looks at
the other kinfolk. "Those of you that don't wish to pledge, go ahead
and spread out. Those on the outside will join you first." Davy is
totally ignorning Quiet. Instead he's sauntering over toward Patrick.
"Gift to stop technology?"
Phil nods to Andrea, the edges of his aplomb fraying somewhat under the
influence of the fog.
Patrick whiffs the tip of his index finger as if blowing smoke from a
gun, then turns to Liam. "We get to watch. Male thing." He looks to
Davy as the other no-moon comes near. "Nah," he replies. "Major
darkness, concentrated around the light itself. You'll notice that you
can't even see the light, even with the moon."
Davy squints, then gives a low whistle. "Pretty cool," he says. "Maybe
we'll trade trick for trick, sometime. I'd never heard of that new
moon gift."
Arlen takes a candle out of her pack, after peering into the fog. She
doesn't light it yet, but waits for some appropriate moment.
Adam steps towards the middle circle.
Sally MacKay wanders off to 'spread out' as ordered. Her path carries
her past Patrick and she slows for a pace to allow her to whisper a
few words to him.
Agatha whispers something to Nico before moving closer to the center.
Patrick shakes his head in response to Davy's offer. "That one's not a
new moon one, and I can't really trade it. Ancient Chin--er, Uktena
secret," he adds, grinning.
Andrea moves back toward the approximate center of the group. She
motions for people to get in their rough concentric circles as she
passes them, then motions Dana toward the waiting wheelbarrow near the
wooden frame for the cornerstone.
Arlen follows Andrea, drifting slowly after.
Luc finds somewhere to stand in the second circle.
Davy shakes his head. "Damn." He glances up as Arlen slips after Andrea.
"Looks like curtain time. See you after." He moves off to stand in a
hole in the sparse outer circle.
Nico whispers back to Agatha quickly, before moving towards a place next
to Teddy in the outer circle.
Dana watches the other Kinfolk spread out with a brief look of
apartness, but then starts a little as Andrea gives the cue she was
waiting for. Taking her hands out of her pockets, she passes through
the small crowd as delicately as possible to her appointed spot.
Liam head over towards the third circle, his hands in his pockets.
Renee moves into the second circle, managing to find a place beside Luc.
Teddy remains quiet, just watching.
Elan moves in to the second cirle, looking patient and ready.
Agatha takes her place in the second circle, grinning slightly at Renee
as she does so. Phil waits, uneasily, near but not in the center of
the circles.
Jimmy sticks hands in pockets and moves to the third cirlce, ready with
a weather eye to shake off any damn cops that might be sneaking
around.
Arlen lights her candle, an entirely minor little flame, as the circles
begin firming.
Elan holds up his token so it catches what little light there is.
Patrick remains out in the outermost circle, keeping one eye out and one
eye in, waiting for his cue from the Ritemistress. He occasionally
gives Sally a bit of a smile, but tries not to break off his watching
for too long.
Andrea spreads her arms. The Garou at least might recognize that as one
of her common ways of starting a ritual. The late autumn evening is
lit only by the half moon above and only a lonely cricket chirps
before Andrea's voice carries out. "We gather this night to pledge to
this building that will house the battered and ill, those that have no
other safe place to go. Tonight we place a knife in its foundation to
bring the favor of spirits to this place, but our promises will be the
true foundation. Any broken promise is a weakening of the foundation,
so do not offer what you cannot give." Andrea looks around the
circles, then pulls out the rusted knife again. She holds it aloft.
"Unicorn, defender of the weak. Pegasus, defender of women. Tonight we
invoke and honor you both. Hear and judge our words, and lend your
strength to what we do." Andrea then lowers the knife and leaves the
center to head directly for Phil, the only kinfolk that offered a
promise.
Casper comes running quietly into the area, breathing heavily. He spots
Elan and creeps up near him.
Elan looks over and grins at Boo. He gives the younger man a quiet nod
of ackowledgement.
Sally kinda sorta mostly keeps watch, though she does pause to hear
Andrea out before watching the street again. Before too long her
attention wanders, and she glances towards Patrick in time to catch
one of his smiles, returning it with a brighter one of her own.
Phil's voice is unsteady, but he manages to suppress most of his anxiety
as he makes his pledge. "In memory of the past, and in hope for the
future, I pledge the sum of one thousand dollars each year to this
Shelter." He holds his hand almost steady as Andrea pricks his finger
with the knife.
Maria gestures slightly, to attract Quiet's attention. The theurge
pauses and makes her way over. After whispering something to the
Gaian, the Kin pledges, under her breath, to aid the shelter in as
many ways as possible -- by volunteering, by donating money, and in
any other unforseen way, for at least the next three months. And
undoubtedly more.
As Andrea moves on to Maria, Phil drifts out through the second circle
to the third, taking up the duties assigned him.
Patrick nods to the Ritemistress as she approaches and holds out his
hand. He clears his throat and says firmly, "I pledge to give of my
time, twice a month, to the district attorney's office, helping
collect and gather information on cases of rape, domestic abuse, and
other crimes against women. As a twice-born child of Uktena, Uncoverer
of Secrets, do I give this promise to Unicorn and Pegasus."
Liam scratches at his nose for a moment, and then says, "If a child or a
women ever asks for help, and I can help 'm, I'll do whatever I can."
From his manner, he looks and sounds quite serious as he holds his
hand out for the ritualistic knife-prick.
Dana's blue eyes light on Patrick measuringly for a few moments for his
pledge, but then return to roaming through the inner circles and what
can be seen of the third while she waits quietly in silence, hands
again going into the pockets of her jacket.
Andrea pricks the cub's finger and moves on to the Fianna ragabash. Davy
holds his hand out even before he speaks. "I'll sign up for the Walk
Against Breast Cancer...and I'll get all my bar buddies to pledge."
After the knife has tasted his blood, he moves on out to watch the
perimeter.
Elan smiles at Andrea and lowers his voice slightly. "When I was lost
and alone, it was a woman that came and healed me. I pledge that of
those that come to my table, women and children shall feed first,
always. I shall bend my efforts to secure food for this place, so that
the residents might use it to grow strong in mind and body, as long as
I have breathe in my body." Jimmy looks to the ground and mutters
something only Andrea can hear. He looks up and gives her a feirce
No-Moon grin and moves away to patrol.
Agatha's voice is steady, clear, and almost joyous as she speaks,
holding her hand out for Andrea. "I pledge to form a pack with the
purpose of protecting this Shelter and those who work here. Until such
time as this pack is formed, I pledge to assist this Shelter in
whatever manner I am able for at least seven hours each week." When
Andrea goes on to Nico, she studies the healing knife prick for a
moment before looking up to watch the Fury cub make her pledge.
Nico clears her throat before speaking, with a loudness and clearness
most have not heard from her before. "I pledge to join Agatha's pack
to protect the Shelter, once I pass my Rite. And until that time
comes, I will help out at the Shelter as much as possible." She holds
out her hand without hesitation.
Renee gives Agatha quick grin, before holding out her hand and making
her pledge. "I offer my help. I will come here atlest once every
turning of the moon, to help care for those inside. I will help care
for the children, making certain that they do not forget how to
laugh." Renee continues grinning, even as the knife pricks her finger.
Casper holds out his hand, not hesitating. He grins crookedly and says
not-too-quietly, "I um, pledge to go to the shelter, when I can, to
maybe sweep and clean up... if something like that is needed, which
I'd think would be." He thinks on it, and then nods with some
assurance.
Luc has been frowning more and more as he listens to the various
pledges. When it finally gets to be his turn, he gives Andrea a
confused look. He speaks slowly, in a voice that's heavily accented.
"I will give aid to any that are in need and I will protect the weak
and hurt. U-ni-corn does not help only women and chil-dren. If this
place is ever attacked, I will pro-tect it with my life." He looks
particularly at those that have pledged to form a pack around this
place as Andrea cuts him.
Adam lowers his head, respectfully. "While healing can begin here, in
the shadow of that place at the start, the Enemy will probably be
around. I pledge to go to the shadow, with anyone who wants to join
me, to clean out the Umbra around here of the Enemy's touch." He looks
to Agatha and Nico. "I hope this is not an intrisuin on your plans for
a pack, as this is before the shelter officially opens." As Andrea
pricks him with the knife, he doesn't flinch.
Agatha, who has been ignoring Adam until this point, gives the young
Gaian a bright grin.
Nico shrugs at Adam, and shakes her head. When Agatha grins at him, she
gives him a slight, tight-lipped smile.
Arlen says, quietly but firmly, "As a daughter of Pegasus and a child of
Weasel, for as long as I am a member of this Sept, I will seek out
women in need, those who are being abused and those who are being
harmed, in any fashion, and I will aid them. I will seek them out on
my pack's territory, but if I come across women in need elsewhere, I
shall help them as well." Holding out her hand, she says, "Such is my
pledge."
Elan widens his eyes at Arlen's pledge. "...As my maker bade me," he
mutters.
Andrea's blade tastes Arlen's blood as well. The rust on the metal seems
to almost soak up the liquid, and the knife is glowing very faintly as
if outlined in starlight. She speaks last. "I have born this knife for
three years, and there are three circles here. Three has begun it, and
three will end it. For three years, I will aid any child that I
discover in need, unless it break the Litany or further the cause of
the Wyrm." With a slice, Andrea cuts her own hand.
Andrea then holds the knife aloft. "So we have made these promises, and
so is the foundation of this shelter begin. If a solid house is to be
built, it must be on rock, not on shifting sand." She lowers the knife
and sets it point-up in the frame. She holds it in place and speaks to
Dana. "Pour the stone."
Dana does as she's directed. Andrea gets splashed with the wet, soggy
concrete before she withdraws her hand from the growing pile. When
topped off and smoothed with a scraper, the theurge draws the glyphs
for both tribes, intermingled, on one corner of the stone. She then
straightens and says simply, "It is done."
Arlen murmurs something in Greek and blows her candle out.
Elan closes his hand over the small token he brought, and a shimmering
light momentarily limns it, then flees.
Andrea steps back and begins to shake her arm to knock the worst of the
concrete off. Elan's action gains a smile from her briefly, before she
turns back to cleaning her skin.
Agatha's murmur is also in Greek, and almost inaudible. She turns to
Renee and grins. In a low voice, she asks, "I have something to tell
you of Julie."
Sally MacKay, finding guard duty to be rather dull, taps her foot in
time to some song as the rite finishes up. Once it seems mostly over,
she turns to face it, glancing around the circles somewhat
questioningly and partly 'Now what?'-ly.
Luc looks around. The rite completed, the awkward man turns and begins
walking in the direction of the forest.
Elan takes a deep breath and he grins in the cold darkness. "Wow." He
begins to at last button up his shirt, shivering a little.
Casper stares at the stone, lost in his own thoughts.
Teddy remains standing where he's been from the start.
Pack> Patrick sends over the pack link, "Okay to raise the darkness
now?"
Agatha moves closer to Renee as Nico joins the two young Furies. "She
apparently suffered a frenzy this evening, before Nico and I arrived
at the barn."
Pack> Andrea says "Sure."
Sally MacKay drifts back towards Patrick. "So that's it?" she asks
quietly. "The, um, rite-thing is over?" Lifting a hand, she runs her
fingers through her blonde locks and shifts them back from her face.
"Name's Sally, by the way. Or Mustang, either's cool." She's smiling
again.
Phil gives a short wave in Teddy's direction and then looks for Sally.
Seeing her by the young man with the white-streaked hair, he frowns
faintly, then shrugs.
Pack> Touch Deer says ""Any problems, with the Rite?"
Renee blinks, grin instantly disapearing. Eyes expressing her worry, she
glances towards the woods.
Andrea turns toward Patrick, then shakes her head slightly with a smile
as she sees him with Sally. "Those that wish to go to our apartment
can go on over," she says. "Maria knows the address. Or I will be back
in around half an hour, to pick up all that are left without rides."
With that, Andrea heads toward the woods herself.
Patrick nods at Sally's question. "That's it. For now, it's done. Now we
just have to wait until it's constructed to make sure it did good." He
extends his hand to her, introducing himself, "And I'm Patrick Hill.
Pleased to meet you. Very." He glances towards the streetlight and
whistles. The darkness around the lamp itself vanishes, and the area
is once again bathed in its light.
*************************************
Patrick calls to his packmate, "Hey, Andrea! Want some of the oatmeal?"
Andrea comes out of the kitchen and smiles at her packmate. "I thought
I'd make you some."
Liam comes in with Patrick, his hands in his pockets as he peers around
the area with an entirely too-curious air. His gaze falls over to the
TV, and he just pauses there, muttering to himself, "Oh, man..."
Sally MacKay looks to Liam, the only face she has no name to go with.
"Hey," she smiles, then cocks her head as she watches his reaction to
the TV. "You okay?"
Elan plops down the sacks of burgers. "Enough for everyone. Don't take
the ones in the brown bag unless you want recycleables." He grins at
Liam. "Your first Rite, kid?"
Liam shakes his head slightly, and rubs at the back of his neck. "Was in
a Cleansing with Sepdet a while ago... I just remembered. I missed all
the new Bab Five episodes."
Patrick snorts. "I'm sure someone's taped 'em. Never got into it that
much, myself. Never really had the time to, with ... other stuff going
on."
Andrea licks her lips and calls out as she goes back into the kitchen.
"I'm making a big pot of rotini, Elan. I may trade you a bowl for a
burger?"
Sally MacKay sort of wanders around the place, checking things out. She
glances at the Garou now and again, just watching them interact.
Liam scratches at his head, glancing over at the burgers, and then
mutters, "An' my folks never would've gotten a Playstation... how do
you guys afford all this?" He glances back over his shoulder to
Patrick.
Elan offers the sandwich gravely, the first and largest from the bag.
"Certainly, rhya." He passes out burgers to Sally, Arlen and any of
the other women here, first.
Sally MacKay wanders back to take a burger, but doesn't unwrap it yet.
"Thanks."
Patrick heads into the kitchen behind Andrea and rummages around in the
refrigerator for a while. "Oh, I found another use for that glop,
Andrea. It makes great zombie makeup for Halloween," he mentions as he
continues rummaging through the fridge. "Here we go!" he exclaims. "I
knew I had one of those frozen cobblers in here someplace. Preheat the
oven to 400 for me?" he asks as he takes a fairly good-sized aluminum
tray out of the freezer. At Liam's questio, he looks up and calls,
"Here and there. Probably three quarters of it's mine, honestly."
Liam looks around the place, and then just sorta shrugs in reply to
Patrick. He watches Sally with a sort of speculative air, falling into
silence as he thinks to himself.
Sally MacKay sits on the couch's arm, one leg is folded under her and
the other is straight as she watches the werewolves go about the
commonplace routines of /cooking/. Her head tilted slightly, blonde
bangs have tumbled forward across her creased brow.
Patrick adds, "I have a good job. And, well, my parents own this
apartment complex."
Elan goes to sniff around Patrick's CD and tape collection.
Liam nods slightly, and wanders about the place, looking at various
things before getting over to the couch and sitting down.
Andrea comes out with two bowls: rotini with spagetti sauce for Elan and
a bowl of the same noodles with butter and sprinkled cheese for
herself. She hands over the bowl and goes to take a burger. Setting
down her food, she says jokingly, "Anyone eating it while I'm gone to
get my drink gets throated." Turning toward the kitchen, she adds,
"There's drinks in the kitchen, by the way, guys."
"Hey, cool," Sally hops off her perch and heads into the kitchen in
search of a drink... or a beer, to be exact.
Elan slurps as Andrea hands him the bowl, having already handed over to
her the huge burger. He looks to Andrea. "Oh, did I tell you I made
Fostern?" He picks up one of Pat's CD's and begins reading the back of
it.
Andrea stops in the kitchen doorway and turns around. "No, you hadn't
said it completed, but I heard from the moot." She smiles at the
Gnawer theurge. "Congratulations." She then moves out of Sally's way
and joins the kinfolk in the kitchen. Andrea reappears with a glass of
strawberry-kiwi juice.
Elan looks to Pat, with a swing CD in hand. "Mind if I put this on?"
Sally MacKay steps back out of the kitchen, looking all the happier now
that she has a beer in her hand (and the burger Elan gave her in her
other, still).
Phil follows Arlen into the apartment. The slight Fury kin seems
somewhat uncertain of himself. Seeing Sally, he frowns just the
slightest bit.
Patrick looks up and across the bar as he finishes putting the cobbler
into the oven. "Hunh? Yeah, sure."
Elan walks over to the CD player and cues up 'Squirrel Nut Zippers',
then walks over to Sally. "Dance?" he says as the music begins.
Andrea sits down on her end of the couch and begins working on her
dinner as if she hadn't eaten yet today. Which most of her students
(and perhaps Arlen too) might suspect as true.
Arlen leads Phil in, evidently not used to the apartment but nonetheless
quite confident anyway. Taking a burger with a nod of thanks, she
gives Patrick a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne. "Not exactly a
housewarming gift, but I've never been here before, so I have an
excuse."
Sally MacKay reclaims the arm of the couch, balancing the burger on her
thigh so she can crack open her beer. She takes a long drink and then
smiles, her eyes sweeping the room before Elan walks over. "Cool," she
agrees with a grin, setting the food and drink on the arm once she's
off it.
Dana passes on the burger, and finds herself gravitating to near where
Andrea is sitting. She sits crosslegged on the floor by that end of
the couch, a few feet off and back towards the wall more, content, for
now, to simply watch.
Liam looks over at Sally curiously on the other end of the couch,
watching her with her food, and then says at length, "Umm... hi."
Elan moves out to the center of the floor, now completing a cycle of
almost a year ago, when he first danced with Sally at the Gnawer's
wake for Mother Theresa. He's a quite good dancer, as a matter of
fact, moving easily and naturally.
Phil stands slightly behind Arlen as she gives Patrick the gift. Quietly
waiting, he offers Patrick a simple smile in greeting.
Patrick smiles and nods in thanks to Arlen. "Thanks," he says, sitting
it on the bar separating the kitchen from the living room. "It works
as a gift. Glad you came by."
Sally MacKay waves to Liam as she joins Elan in dancing. The kinswoman
moves with a natural grace, looking almost more at home dancing than
sitting still. Her eyes on Elan's, she mischievously reaches a hand
out, running a single finger down his chest as she holds his gaze with
her own.
Arlen returns, "Glad you invited me," and watches Sally, a faintly
ironic smile on her face, as she, too, gravitates towards Andrea.
Elan grins as Sally touches him and dances closer.
Patrick sticks something into the microwave and starts it up. After
about a minute or so, the ops atart, and the smell of popcorn wafts
through the apartment. "Popcorn in a couple of minutes," he calls out,
rather unnecessarily. He notices Elan and Sally and snorts, grinning
wryly, before going over towards Liam and the couch. "So," he asks
Liam, "what'd you think of tonight?"
Sally does not drop her eyes from Elan's. Making the dance almost into a
contast, she moves in closer, dancing as close as she can to him but
touching him with no more than that single finger.
Phil trails along in Arlen's wake, avoiding looking at Sally. The slight
young man does, however, look at everything and everyone else in the
room without looking long enough at any single person to be considered
rude.
Sally MacKay finishes her dance with the Gnawer, flashes him a
bright-eyed grin, then spins back to get her beer.
Liam glances over to Patrick, and then sorta shrugs. "Interesting," he
says after a couple seconds. "Important, though."
Andrea smiles at both Dana and Arlen, respectively. The Gaian has
already consumed half her burger and is making serious inroads on her
pasta. Swallowing, she repeats, "Drinks in the kitchen if you need
them." A glance to acknowledge Phil as well and she says with a smile,
"All three of you."
Phil smiles to Andrea, then turns to Arlen and Dana. "May I get either
of you something to drink?" he offers.
Arlen shakes her head. "Don't get thirsty after a Rite for awhile. Just
wanted to come say hello, really." To Phil, she shakes her head. "But
it's good of you to ask."
Dana hesitates visibly before replying. "Water, please," she responds
quietly.
Phil smiles his charming smile at Arlen. "It's my pleasure." Dana also
gets a smile and a "Certainly," as he heads in the indicated
direction.
Phil returns from the kitchen with two glasses, both apparently of
water. He hands one to Dana and then resumes his place near Arlen.
