Though not as many spirits as in the center of the caern, small shapes still go about their business in the dim island umbra. Neither Garou can see well, and Quiet shifts quickly to the war form even in the heart of her territory. She motions toward a glimmer over the water. ~That is the purity spirit once bound in THorn. It is always here. Stay close while I call Jade, my totem.~

Clouded Sky looks out over the water, entranced by the notion of the spirit bound by one she has heard so much about, yet never had the opportunity to know during his time. She moves close to the Gaian, but remains in her natural form, waiting patiently and with excitement clear in the cast to her ears and the curl of her tail.

Quiet stands stock-still, staring over the water, for some time. Most of the sounds of the spirits are benign, with darkness not being the handicap to a wolf that lack of sound and smell would be. But some sounds echo across the water that raise the hackles: a slow hiss, the sound of breaking branches, the drag of something huge through brush. Even in the center of a pack's territory in the woods, the Umbra is not totally safe during new moon. The purity spirit flits closer, lighting the air with its glow. Like a lune, it seems to have no true body under the glow, but it's too bright to let one see well.

Finally, a more natural hiss--like that of a snake--breaks the silence between the two Garou. A brightly-colored serpent threads between Clouded Sky's legs, as quick as thought, and then seems to swim through the air to loop around Quiet. It seems not the least disturbed by her form. *You called,* says the Uktena spirit through its dancing hiss, which is all Clouded Sky hears.

Clouded Sky watches, transfixed, half-closing her eyes at the brightness. Clouded Sky lifts one paw in a startled reaction to the snake moving between her legs. She otherwise remains still, though her attention is now focused on the snake, rather than the bright spot out over the water.

Quiet nods her head, though she doesn't otherwise move, letting the spirit dance her threading path around her body. *Yes,* she says, though Clouded Sky understands her words for an oddly-inflected version of the Mother tongue. *I called you for this one.* Jade untangles herself gracefully and swims toward the Wendigo. She floats at eye level, lidless eyes staring into the lupus's pupils. This close, Clouded Sky can smell, if not really see, the few feathers that cling to Jade's skin. *This one? She doesn't look like one that would follow me. She bears another mark.*

Clouded Sky's tail and head are lowered slightly in supplication as she submits to inspection by the spirit. Still, her ears pull forward as she is as curious about the spirit as it may be about her.

Quiet's ears splay, even as she shakes her head solemnly. *No, she comes asking to learn a gift.* Another exchange where Clouded Sky hears only half the conversation. *No, not that. She wants to learn to speak to you.* The snake slithers forward then, threading through Clouded Sky's fur with the odd pulling of scale as she parts it. She then pulls back and goes back to Quiet, dancing in front of the theurge as she hisses. The totem jaggling doesn't look back at Clouded Sky as she tells her follower, *She doesn't smell right. Too big, too much Luna's. No.*

Quiet bows her head once, then speaks to Clouded Sky. ~She says no.~ The theurge breaks her gaze with her totem to look down at the wolf. ~I think she senses what the other spirits told you, that you were born under a bigger moon than crescent.~

Clouded Sky's ears and tail droop, crestfallen. She releases the held, anticipatory breath. Then it is that I shall have to learn to be the best gibbous moon that I can be. An ear twitches as both return to a more neutral expression. Thank you, Quiet-rhya, for trying to teach me this thing. I am sorry I was not meant to be your student in this.

Quiet nods at the wolf, then kneels down to her level. Jade gives a parting dance around the Gaian's body, then slithers away through the dark air with a final hiss. ~You're welcome. I'm sorry. Even if you were born under gibbous, it disappoints me that you weren't able to follow something that calls to you.~ The theurge shrinks again to lupus, and begins to walk toward the reflective surface. Remember, she says. If your heart still calls you toward the spirits, there is a way to change your path. I do not advise it, but I also do not advise living in unhappiness.

Clouded Sky follows the other wolf, tail still low, but eyes beginning to show the brightness of curiosity and careful thought. Perhaps you can tell me of this way to change paths, sometime. It is something I will need to think on, and speak about with my pack.

Quiet dips her muzzle shallowly. I can do you one better, she says. We will seek out Ravenfeeder. She told me once in passing that she had learned this, so she will know it better than I, who have not.

Clouded Sky licks her muzzle. Thank you.
