Tin Can Wilson is reclining on a pew, scritching a small puppy who has
decided to lean up against him for warmth. His eye is closed, but he
sniffs at the air as other bodies enter the room. "Hello?" he says,
not bothering to turn around or open his eye.
Seirian slips in quietly, as is her wont, settling the door in place
behind her. A smile brushes the corners of her mouth up at the
greeting, which she returns quietly. "Heyla...Seiri here..."
Andrea rapped at the door with her knuckes before entering the church.
She pushes her hair back as she walks toward the Garou she can see.
Bailey is heading up the stairs, looking around, a hint of concern on
his face. He gives a greeting nod to the others, and proceeds to look
under pews, and around the altar at the rear of the church by the
stairwell.
Douglas steps in through the front door right behind Seirian, he must
have been walking behind her or something. Catching the door as
Seirian tries to close it, Douglas closes it slowly himself.
Tin Can Wilson lifts a hand to wave at Seirian, then brings it back down
to continue to skritch the puppy. "Who else?" he asks, his eye still
not open.
Shadow Eyes whuffles as his rest is disturbed by all the tramping and
banging. He looks up, then catches scent of Andrea through the mix of
dog, packmates and the still lingering remains of Pete's not-so-silent
but deadly. He gets to his feet at once. Quiet-rhya?
Seirian turns slightly to smile at Douglas, then makes her way around
pews to her corner.
"Just me," the Walker calls out, peering over the top of the pew.
"Looking for-" he cuts off as he sees the Gaian. "We have guests," he
says.
Gargoyle stands and moves from the corner she was lying in, giving a
warning growl as people start to enter. She obviously is not amused by
so many entering so quickly.
Douglas says to Tin Can, "Hey there JW..." then steps in to sit besides
the entering steps.
Tin Can Wilson's eye opens and he turns around at the mention of Quiet's
name. "Oh, hey," he says, getting up to stretch.
Shadow Eyes cocks his head at pads up to the Ritemistress.
Thump-thump-thump! Something big comes running loudly up the stairs. Hi!
Clever appears from the stairwell, wagging like crazy as she sees the
crowd. Hi!Hi!Hi!
Gargoyle moves to Jimmy's side, still growling. "Chill, mama," the
one-eyed ragabash tells her. Gar seems ready to follow this advice
until Clever bounds up the stairs. The gnarly bitch's face pulls back
into a snarl, and she barks several times at Clever, moving slowly
forward.
Bailey moves from his spot in the back, approaching the others. He bows
his head respectfully. "Quiet-ryha."
Clever-for-Food tries to stop her mad rush forward, her big paws sliding
against the floor. Still wagging, her tail lowers a notch and her ears
flick back then edge forward again, sending mixed signals.
Seirian crouches down by her things for a moment or two, her head
lifting at hearing Quiet's name. Listening for a moment, she gets up
and moves to intercept Clever's attention. "Hey there, you!"
Gargoyle snaps her jaws once in the direction of Clever, then looks back
to Jimmy who gives her a hard stare. The bitch backs down and retreats
to her corner, settling back down into her blankets. Jimmy moves to
greet Andrea. "Hello," he says simply. "Here for business or
pleasure?"
Clever-for-Food's hackles raise and lower as the dog's jaws click, but
she's distracted easily enough by Seirian. Hi! Getting all four of her
legs working to move her in the same direction, the lupe gallops to
the Fianna. HiHiHi!
Luc is right behind Andrea, looking very out of place. He peers into
every corner suspiciously, almost paranoid.
Seirian chuckles and crouches down in Clever's path. She keeps her voice
relatively low-pitched as she greets the lupe, "Well now, been a while
since I've seen ye!" She braces herself for the onslaught headed her
way.
Andrea smiles faintly at both Bailey and Jimmy, giving especially the
second a polite duck of her head as he comes up up and asks her.
"Business, sadly," she says, indicating the two fostern she has in
tow: Luc and Arlen. "I've found out a lot of information, and I was
looking specifically for Elan." She glances around the room, smiling
slightly again as she meets the theurge-in-question's gaze. Andrea
seeks out Touch Deer's gaze last, then she looks back to Jimmy. "But
all of you can stay, if you will. Say what you will about Dog, his
children are usually willing to listen rather than fight blindly."
The sounds of steps creak up from the basement and a few moments later
Touch Deer opens the door.
The way overgrown pup launches herself at Seirian. Clever licks at the
Fianna's chin and cheeks, leaving wide tracks of doggy breath-scented
drool in her tongue's wake. Hi! Been home! AwayAway!
Shadow Eyes wags his tail as Andrea praises his pack totem, and blurs up
to his human form.
Tin Can Wilson nods. "Talking's good, rhya. Have a seat? Want some food
or something? We got some Cokes and beers in the basement."
Seirian chuckles softly and tugs gently on Clever's ears in greeting. "I
see! I see! Where'd ye go, pup?" Occasionally, her eyes flick to the
others, as if listening the tntire time.
Touch Deer nods towards Andrea and walks towards her, waving silently to
everyone here.
Clever-for-Food's tail a blur, she answers. Away! Away! Been Home!
FoodWarmEatEatEat!
Bailey nods, understanding. He looks over to his Alpha, seeing the puppy
he's been looking for. Silently, he heads over there to give the puop
a scritch. He looks back to the Wendigo, smiles at him, waving him
over with a free hand.
Elan folds his arms and gives a smile to the Ritemistress. "You need me?
Cool. Anything, sure."
Seirian grins and sits down, finding that more comfortable than
crouching. "Home, eh? Sounds exciting! Good food there? Ye ate a lot?"
Andrea hesitates, then shakes her head. "Either might make me sick," she
admits. "It's been a while. But if you have anything else. Kool-aid?"
She makes her way to a seat and settles down where there are plenty of
pews around.
Touch Deer sits next to Andrea quickly enough. "I didn't know you were
going to come up..."
Clever-for-Food sprints in a circle around Seirian, wiggling with excess
energy. Did! Ate lots and lots!
Seirian grins and twists this way and that to watch the lupe. "Well...ye
cert'nly didnae get any less happy, I'm glad t'see." Reaching out, she
attempts to wrap her arms around Clever playfully.
Tin Can Wilson looks back over his shoulder to Bailey, who he gives a
little nod to. He moves to sit himself back down at the pew next to
the puppy he's been playing with tonight.
Clever-for-Food lets herself be caught, though she uses the closeness to
return to her task of washing Seirian's face, ears, hair, neck...
Bailey stands up, and heads downstairs. After a few minutes he does
return, having found some kool-Aid for the Adren. "Cherry is all we
had," he says, handing her the glass.
Arlin continues to lean near the door. Holding the wall up?
Seirian giggles and starts wrestling with Clever, squirming and making
it hard for herself to be washed. "Ah-ah-ah...gotta catch me first!"
Clever-for-Food's happy enough to wash anything she can reach: arm,
clothing, shoes... The lupine Gnawer barks playfully, placing a paw
down onto the homid as she leans in.
Douglas just sits there idly by the stairs with a blank stare bouncing
around the church.
Luc remains outside the circle of people, leaning against a random wall.
Seirian continues to wriggle, ending up on her back, her giggles
accompanying the barking. "Eee! Oh, no! You've caught me! I'm doomed!"
Clever-for-Food stands not only over Seirian, but on top of her. Wagging
and bouncing, she uses her position to licks and snuffle the other
Garou. Gotcha!
Seirian brings her hands up in a mock effort to guard her face. "Ye have
me, ye do! Mercy! Donnae hurt me, please!" Her tone is playfully
begging, and she grins brightly.
Andrea takes it with a thankful smile and drinks before beginning. "I
wasn't coming out here until Sunday," she tells Touch Deer first.
"Then Dana came to see me, and I found out things important to know."
She looks around the room. "I don't want to slow us down too much, but
if someone could sum up what the city packs have found since the moot
for me?"
"Pain," Jimmy answers, then looks to Elan. "You wanna clue her in on
stuff?"
"There are five of the things sitting in Harbor Park," Arlen says, not
moving an inch. "We could probably uproot them, soon."
Bailey sits back down, bringing his legs back up under his body on the
pew. "After the Moot and the Revel, the things retreated to the park.
Some of the city garou met a few days ago to toss theories around, I
think."
Clever-for-Food's hackles lift, but the lupe doesn't even play-growl
down at Seirian. She barks again instead, then just flops down on top
of her.
Seirian blinks, in no small amount of surprise, which turns into mild
concern. "Whassa matter, luv? Did I say som'thin' wrong?" she murmurs
this without attempting to get up one bit.
Elan nods to his pack alpha, then the young Fostern looks to Andrea. "We
had a war meeting about it the other night." He nods at Arlen. "We got
some ideas, but nothing really solid. Dana's idea that they are,
literally, one mind might be true. We were thinking of this. They eat
magic, so maybe we could lure them with it?"
Clever-for-Food blinks brown eyes down at the Fianna, appearing somewhat
surprised. The dog rises to her paws and with one still planted
(seemingly unnoticed) on Seirian's belly, the dog shakes, her ruff
smoothing, then grins at the homid.
Andrea glances at Arlen to see if she has anything to add.
Julie knocks lightly on the door, then cracks it open enough to look
within. "H'lo?" she calls in quietly.
Seirian's concern fades before a smirk as she hefts herself up to her
elbows. "A'right, I jus' wanted t'make sure." Reaching out a hand, she
tugs on Clever's ears again playfully.
Clever-for-Food makes no effort to keep her ear from being pulled, her
head leaning to one side. The lupe smiles at the Fianna, the parting
of her jaws allowing her tongue to loll free.
Arlin seems to have nothing to add. Yet.
Douglas looks up from the bottom of the stairs at Julie. Douglas offers
Julie a smile, wave, and friendly nod.
Tin Can Wilson waves the cub into the room, then turns his attention
back to what's going on.
Elan glances to Arlen, then back to Andrea. "How does that sound, rhya?
Like it would work? Maybe we could get a couple to go Shadow, then we
would be able to nail the others in the Realm."
Julie steps in, closing the door behind her. She moves to where Douglas
is, and sinks down to sit beside him, eyeing the gathered with
bloodshot eyes through the veil of dirty blond braids.
Seirian grins and sits up a bit more, using both ears to deliver a good
rub to Clever's ears. Glancing towards the door and craning her head,
she offers the same grin to Julie before looking back.
Douglas leans over a bit to whisper to Julie.
Luc peers at Elan. "They not spirits."
Clever-for-Food starts making little noises in time to the rubbings,
quiet groany-growly sounds of pleasure.
Elan looks at Luc. "We've tracked them to and in the Umbra. They can
indeed go Shadowy." He points to Jimmy and Bailey. "They was with me,
when these things did that."
Andrea looks back at Elan. "I think it could work, if they were only
animals. The bait, anyway. I think you'd have to leave them until
Harbor Park was almost depleted, because I doubt anything we could
make would shine to them like the park does." She shakes her head. "It
doesn't matter, though, because I don't think they're animals. Not in
intelligence, anyway." She looks around, and her gaze falls on Bailey.
"Has anyone tried to Mindspeak with them?"
Luc looks skeptical, his posture shifting unconsciously into what, in
lupus form would reflect obvious doubt. "You *seen* them there?"
Julie leans against Doug to listen her head dipping down. She turns her
head faintly to reply.
Arlin's gaze also swivels to Bailey, looking both surprised and
frustrated.
Elan nods to Luc. "Seen 'em, smelled 'em, tracked them to a nest they
had under the bridge. Though I guess they're gone, now."
Luc looks from Elan to Andrea.
Seirian chuckles softly and continues to rub, digging into all the good
spots one by one. While rubbing, she turns her head to listen to the
others a bit more.
The sound of Bailey's beeper breaks his concentration. He looks down,
checking the number. He grins inwardly, muttering "Hoo-ah," and
stands. "That's the call for a meeting I have to attend. See everyone
later?"
As Seirian's hands move lower, she finds one of Clever's /spots/.
Thump-thumo-thump, the lupine Gnawer's back leg starts druming against
the floor.
Julie lifts her head faintly, bringing her gaze up to Douglas, the
proximity allowing him to see the dark circles under her eyes and the
deepening of her hollow cheeks, though there's the light of
stubborness shimmering in her gaze as an half-smile greets him.
Bailey does nod, though. "I did Mindspeak on them. Elan can vouch for
it, too. Their mind, it's alien. Nothing recognizable."
Seirian casts an amused smile at Clever and rubs that particular spot
for a while as she listens.
Elan snaps his fingers. "I'd forgotten about that. Um, don't do it,
Andrea. It could drive you nuts. More alien than anything I've ever
seen. Admittedly it ain't much, but I summoned Lightning once. I
thought it was pretty alien, but nothing at all like these things."
Clever-for-Food's growly grumble grows louder as the thumping of her
hindleg speeds up. She leans into the Fianna's hands.
Andrea frowns. She shakes her head. "I can't do it. But one of my
kinfolk has, more or less. Where it has stressed her mind, I believe
what she's seen in its mind is real."
Bailey frowns at this thought, and leaves quietly.
Bailey opens one of the double doors at the back of the church, leaving
for the streets.
Douglas smiles a bit as his lifts his hand to turn Julie's face away so
he can whisper to her again.
Elan raises his eyebrows. "Cool. You got a telepath for a kinfolk?"
He's, like, in awe.
Clever-for-Food's head goes back as she presses into the rubbing, her
whole leg hitting against the floor now.
Pete Barlow steps through the old double doors, closing them behind him.
Tin Can Wilson sits and remains quiet throughout all the talking, just
listening so as to pick up what everyone else has to say.
Julie sighs, and shakes her head faintly, tilting her head to whisper
again to Douglas.
Seirian continues to rub for a while, occasionally glancing to see if
Clever tires of the attention.
Andrea's lips twitch, but she answers Elan without much hesistation. "In
a way. She's a mage." Her lips twitch again, but this time her
expression turns wry. "Most of the sept knows that already, thanks to
some Garou."
The door slams shut and the heavy stomp of boots precedes the appearance
of Pete Barlow, stocking cap pulled down close to his ears, the heavy
jacket pulled up close around his neck. He is carrying a gunny sack.
Clever-for-Food starts panting, and finally just flops over onto her
side, tongue dangling onto the floor. She looks up at the Fianna with
brown eyes full of happiness.
Tin Can Wilson watches as Barlow enters. "Oh, hell," he says. "Someone
open the windows, before it's too late."
Julie winces at the doorslam, and looks over her shoulder, then lowers
her head again, seeing who it is. Again she whispers to Douglas.
Seirian looks down at the lupe and ruffles her ears gently with a smile.
Her head snaps up at the slam and she blinks repeatedly, unused to the
noise.
Douglas but nods to Julie, and embraces Julie in a hug.
Clever-for-Food's head shoots up at the slam, and she gives a low
'woof!' of warning before the scent reaches her. Ears lowering, she
wags.
Barlow simple gives Wilson a narrow-eyed stare, cigarette dangling from
his mouth. He looks across the gathering, eyes stopping when he sees
the Gaian. The stare mellows swiftly as the burly Gnawer stubs out the
smoke with a thumb and forefinger, pockets the cigarette, and then
pulls off his stocking cap. "Andrea."
Elan nods at Andrea, not quite getting the reason for the wry
expression; he's almost forgotten that moot. "Cool, then." He looks
thoughtful for a second. "Wait. We never did SEE them under the
bridge, but that's where Sarge lost the scent in the Umbra."
Tin Can Wilson nods at what Elan says. "That's how I remembr it, too."
Andrea toasts Barlow with her cherry Kool-Aid. "Pete." She then looks
around. "The story that she came back with is a little long, so bear
with me."
Julie mutters quietly, "I'm tryin', bu' I canno' even think straigh' no
more, Dougl's."
Luc cocks his head, wolf-like. "Sarge?" he repeats the strange word
slowly.
Gargoyle looks up from where she lies in her blanket pile in the corner,
giving Barlow a quick once-over, then sticks her head into the
blankets and tries to go back to sleep.
Pete Barlow stuffs the stocking cap in his pocket as well, finding a
spot to sit beside Wilson.
Elan sits to listen to this story, only looking at Luc once. "Sarge, our
pack spirit buddy."
Seirian stretches a little and returns to rubbing Clever's ears gently.
Julie hunches a bit, sinking further into her jacket and sidling a
little away from Douglas, though actually not to get away from him,
but to sink a bit into more of the shadows.
Luc seems to understand. He juts his lower jaw out stubbornly. "Not
spirit," he repeats, to the wall he leans against.
Clever-for-Food's eyes start to blink shut at the less wild rubbing; the
muttish lupe stretches out, looking like she's about to doze off.
Elan again can't help looking at Luc. "DOn't have to be to go to the
Shadow. We can do it, and so can some sorcerers. I've seen it."
Seirian keeps up the attention, watching the lupe quietly with one ear
turned to the conversation.
Luc shrugs one shoulder at Elan, his expression sullen.
Andrea takes a drink before beginning. "This is from the point of view
of the creature. It was in a place far from here, and something was
hurting it that it couldn't hurt. So it fled, and it ran into some
creatures like itself, and others that bound it from changing, and
others that caused it pain. It couldn't hurt any of these, so it ran
again. It got to a wall, and when it found a thin place it ripped
through the wall. Still, everything that encountered it, it couldn't
hurt. It found another wall, thinner than the first, and ripped
through it. Now it was in a place that 'hated it,' a place that didn't
morph and change. The place's hate caused it pain, but it found
something that made some of the pain go away. Another came while it
was there, something that could also change shape." The theurge's jaw
tightens at this bit. "But now it could hurt things, and when
something tried to kill it, it killed. It fled again, but it isn't
hesitating to kill, now that it can strike back."
Clever-for-Food's eyes aare more closed now than open. Like you, the dog
indicates softly as she drifts off to sleep. Nice, nice.
Seirian smiles quietly at that and rubs more gently as she whispers.
"Like you, too."
Clever-for-Food's black lips part in another doggy smile, her tail
thumps a few times, then she falls asleep.
Elan folds his arms, rapt at the story Andrea tells. "Deep Umbra, then?
Crap. Who KNOWS what these things are like, then." He thinks some
more. "So, if we could just open a tunnel to the Deep Umbra, they
might just go the hell back?"
Tin Can Wilson grabs the pup he's been playing with and heads down into
the basement.
Andrea takes a deep breath and continues. "I think I can explain the
mysteries, scarily enough. The first place, the ever-changing with the
thick wall around it, sounds like the deep places." She meets Touch
Deer's gaze and goes on. "My pack, and a few others, have been there.
There's something like the Gauntlet there, called the Membrane. These
things could have ripped out of an anchorhead. The second wall is
almost certainly the Gauntlet. A hole was discovered in the Hilltop's
gauntlet some weeks ago. As to the hate..." She pauses for a moment,
then pushes on. "Gaia doesn't accept some magics, magics that are not
of her. We are safe from this, but mages doing fantastical feats are
not. A spirit from this realm is safe from this, but a creature of the
flesh from the deep places might not be. It is not of Gaia." Her lips
thin again. "The first death is certainly Sisyphus defending the
caern, and the stuff they have found is the energy of some places and
things, including our glades and caerns." She looks at Elan. "I don't
know. Dana didn't think to ask it that. I was hoping one of us could
ask it, if we could talk to its mind."
Seirian makes sure Clever is quiet asleep before standing up and
stretching fully, leaning against a pew to listen intently.
Julie fidgets faintly, a chill creeping up her spine at the tale.
Luc looks at Quiet and asks, "These flesh?"
Pete Barlow continues to listen quietly, mouth pursed on and off.
Andrea nods. "They are creature of flesh. Bodies. Not spirit, and not
both in one, like we are. Things that don't have something about them
of the spirit can't harm spirits, so they wouldn't have been able to
defend themselves in the Umbra itself."
Elan grimaces. "Damn. If we'd known that, we could have killed the damn
lot of them in the Umbra. They were so placid, they were like cattle.
We pushed a couple, and all they did was get up and move."
Luc says "Send them to deep, then spirits kill."
Andrea grimaces. "I have no love for these things. Obviously, since I
fought them. If they were willing to deal though, and go back to where
they came from, I wouldn't want to set them up just to get killed.
Call it karma."
Julie offers quietly from her spot a ways away from the others. "Mebbe
someone tha' don' harbor nothin' agains' them cou'd somehow deal
with'em?"
Elan thinks, then shakes his head. "I'm almost out of ideas, other than
how much it takes to kil one of these things. They done sucked all the
juice outta Dark Wine and Roses, I think, and I'll be damned if
they're gonna have the park."
Luc wrinkles his nose at all the strange talk.
Andrea meets Elan's eyes. "If I can get these things to go away, will
you support me in getting them away without another fight?"
Douglas just gives Julie a friendly pat with his hand and gives her a
smiling gaze for a moment, before standing and making his way out.
Julie glances up at Douglas questioningly as he heads out.
Elan nods at Andrea. "Sure, rhya. Fightin' means dyin', and we don't
need
anyone else laid out in the dirt.
Julie flicks a smile back, then looks back to the others.
Andrea nods. "Spread the word, discreetly. I don't want someone
muttering about soft-headed Gaians to ruin the chance before we even
know it will work." She sighs again. "I guess I'll have to find my
kinfolk, if we can't speak to them ourselves. Damn. I was hoping to
save her further exposure."
Luc asks, "Where to?"
Elan looks at Andrea. "Yeah. She seems so damn nervous all the time. I
guess the curse really spooks her, huh? Sure thing. I can depends on
my tribe to keep things quiet. We got the best scouts going."
Andrea nods again. She turns to Luc then and echoes, "Where to?"
Luc bobs his head several times in imitation of a nod. "Where send them
to?"
Julie starts awake, eyes blinking wide to refocus, unintentionally
dozing off right where she is sitting.
Andrea glances toward the door that Arlen left. "I'm not certain, Luc.
Home, preferably. They would have to live in some Realm, if not, and
the only realm of the mages that I know isn't willing to take them.
I'm trying to find Rain Walker, and Arlen or Joseph may have an
opinion."
Elan shakes his head. "I don't know much 'bout the other realms.
Somehhing I have to fix, and soon."
Luc falls silent again. His posture and manner indicate that he doesn't
know anything else t hat might help.
Andrea stands. "Luc, tell Robert. Talk to any of our tribe that want to
help, or any you judge reasonable about the matter." She looks around
the few left. "We have to share information, as well as move quickly."
Elan stands as well. "We can give ya something for the road? We got some
sausage that ain't turned, yet."
Luc chews on his lower lip but he grunts softly. "Ja, will do."
Andrea shakes her head and hands back the empty plastic cup. "You keep
it. I'm going to the apartment before I give up hunting out anyone
else."
Julie rubs her eyes with her knuckles, then nods to Andrea, even though
having never met her that she can currently recall. She glances
towards Pete, then to the floor in front of her.
